The eastern coast from Sant'Antioco Maladroxia
To visit the coast, arrival in the city from the bridge on the isthmus, the junction, on the left follow the signs to the beaches and take the SP76. In 2011 Legambiente with his Green Schooner awarded the recognition of 3 Sails the coastal Sant'Antioco, where the beach is recommended in the Long beach of Cala, we will see a little further.
After passing the salt Sant'Antioco the Saline east to distinguish from those of Calasetta, the road runs along a low and sandy coast on the Gulf of Palmas, on which are long beach Canisoni, which is not very nice and it is never crowded.
After the Canisoni beach,4.5 kilometers from the city instead of going straight to Cannae follow the sign to the left Maladroxia. Leave the main road and take a scenic route that follows the east coast. After a mile we come to inlet Portixeddu with its small beach. We come down a path that is on your left.
Continue along the scenic route, and after yet a mile, we arrive at Cala Maladroxia, where a spring spa. It is a large and beautiful bay overlooked by the Village Maladroxia The only tourist resort island. At the end of the road on the left are the beach Maladroxia The most popular, since it is large, beautiful and easy to reach. On the beach is a bar, showers and toilets payment rises a nearby hotel restaurant.
Taking the right hand, the way we do come back after 1.7 kilometers on the highway coming from Sant'Antioco Cannae in town.
Da Capo Sperone Coaquaddus
At Cannae is a large roundabout on the right is the road on the west coast, while we continue to the left towards Cape Sperone, alongside the beautiful rocky coastline and tormented.
After 500 meters you will see great Bay Co. 'e Quaddus or Coaquaddus (Horsetail), in which we find beautiful beach Coaquaddus Well equipped, perhaps the most beautiful beach. beach entrance is a bar with toilets, beach umbrellas and shoes can be hired.
In the summer of 2004 we were on the beach a Coaquaddus when we saw the rising smoke from a huge fire on the mountain behind the beach. Pe came off the first helicopter of Civil Defense, later assisted by two military helicopters from Cape Teulada, and finally arrived a Canadair, the aircraft can refuel in flight through the sliding surface of the sea. It was an arson, as we have discovered since then was the third in a few weeks.
The road continues along the coast, with many turns in a beautiful Mediterranean vegetation, and you start to see the background promontory surmounted by tower Cannae. After 1.2 km a claim on us left after a short stretch of gravel road to Cannae tower, better known as Turri, a watchtower built by Piedmont in the 700, very well preserved. Going after the tower, the rocky coastline opens the inlet port of Cannae, with beach of Porto Cannae overlooking a sea of glass.
The road continues after Turri detour past the resort Peony Pink. After five miles of twists and turns in a beautiful Mediterranean scrub and cacti, we arrive at Capo Sperone Which is the most southern point of the island.
On the mountain that overlooks Cape Sperone, called On guard of Turcu, 175 meters high, are the remains of an important observation post that was called Semaphore In a unique position from which you can control all the coasts of the island with a view that stretches to Cape Teulada. In 2002 it was unfortunately poorly preserved, there were no signs to get there, we arrived it took me here, as in Cala Diving, friend Makleen. I have written then letting us know that the restructuring was carried out, the antenna was removed, and now it is easy to reach because they were placed along the road indicated otherwise.
The west coast from Poggio to Crescent Cove Diving
Return to Cannae. At the roundabout take the right road on the west coast. The road stretches out within a plateau called the hill Crescent. Here we stayed with friends and Makleen Frewilly, i have a guide in this part of the journey.
After 9.8 km, past the resort Polyphemus, from the road on the left begin to see the sea and are now camping Tuna. Another 600 meters and the road runs along the beautiful bay of Cala Soap, also known under the name Cala Sabon With wide beach of Cala Sabon.
Continuing on the road that goes up the west coast, about a mile ahead of the resort Cala Sabon meet the Cyclopes. Here we take a white lane without indication and therefore difficult to detect, that brings us to the almost unknown but beautiful Cala Diving.
The coast road then turns white, or rather it was me until summer 2002 but they say now been paved. After a mile the road goes right to Calasetta, while we take the deviation to the left in the last 1.4 km is unpaved, and brings us forward to better bay of Cala Lunga With Long beach Cove.
The coastal Calasetta
In 2011 Legambiente with his Green Schooner awarded the recognition of 3 Sails the coastal Calasetta. Visit now the coast and see the different beaches of the town of Calasetta.
The detour Cala Lunga is connected, then the road to Calasetta, and along the west coast high by making her see the high cliffs. We are in town Mangiabarche, so called because of the danger of the sea currents that were breaking the fishing boats against the rocks. Mangiabarche exceeded, proceed to Calasetta and before entering the city meet Calasetta beaches with fine sand and white and surrounded by abundant vegetation, especially junipers.
then a little later near the Salt Calasetta reach the small Saline beach, also called Saline beach west to distinguish it from what we experienced at the beginning of our journey. It is characterized by white sand immersed in the abundant vegetation. There are camping, boat rental and boating opportunities.
From here the road continues until you reach Calasetta already described in the first tour of the island, and Calasetta, under the tower Savoia, we find the beach Sottotorre, which offers a beautiful landscape, especially the island of San Pietro, its rocks and its columns compared to the famous Faraglioni of Capri.
